Why do I choose internet income over a traditional income?

Many times while talking with friends, family, or acquaintances the question of why to do business online or any business at all comes up. Why not just work for someone else? Isn’t there a lot of competition online? Isn’t it difficult to start your own business? Many people actually tell me they would rather work for someone else than run their own business. Let someone else deal with all the headaches.

For me, I find the way of thinking mentioned above to be a little strange. I understand this thought process generally comes from a lack of understanding of what it takes to start and run a business. What I don’t understand is why some people will reject the idea out of hand and not even try to understand the potential of earning an income online.

I have decided to list some of my opinions and experiences of earning an income online. What most people do not know about the internet is that it has almost all of the same opportunities as the offline world as well as a whole new group of opportunities that are not available in the offline world.

Why would anyone want to run their own business? Why would anyone want to be their own boss? I had always thought the answers to these questions were self-evident. I suppose the answers could be different for everyone. For me, being my own boss and earning an income online is all about making my own rules. I get to decide what to do, when to do it, how often I do it, and how much I get paid to do it.

So why would anyone else want to earn money online? What if I have a great career working for someone else? Well, I am not here to try and talk anyone out of a great career and into the world of online entrepreneurial business. If you are completely satisfied with your career choice and have no desires to be the owner, the shot caller, and the rule maker, then more power to you. But what about those of you that are tired of someone else making the rules for you? How would you like to decide the hours you work, the type of work you do, and how you are compensated for you time?

Here are a few simple facts about earning money that will help get the ball rolling. Anytime money changes hands it will fall under one of four categories.

1. Providing a product
2. Providing a service
3. Investing
4. Wild card (Lottery, Inheritance, Gifts, etc…)

As far as earning an income, you can strike number 4 from the list and stick with providing a product, providing a service, or investing. We will call these three PSI and as for earning an income whether it is online or offline, the PSI are the very foundation, the starting point.

The ultimate benefit of being your own boss is when you can find a way to earn a living through providing a product, providing a service, investing, or any combination thereof, doing something you enjoy, doing something you would do for free. How would you like to get paid to do something you would do for free, for entertainment, as a hobby, for recreation?

If you are like the majority of the people on this planet, then you spend most of your time doing something that is either earning money, trying to earn money, or spending money. Almost everything we do is in someway related to our ability to earn money. The roof over our head, the light on the ceiling, the car in the drive, the food in the cupboards, the clothes in the closet, the internet, phone, computer, water, and the list goes on forever. We work to make money so we can spend the money. The ability to earn money is overwhelmingly important, so why not earn money doing something we enjoy?

Earning an income online does not mean that you have to setup a full blown business with company offices, executive meetings, and a board of trustees. Of course, if you want to start the next multibillion dollar online business, that is possible too. The point is that earning an income online does not have to be complex. There are many, one person operations that bring in very impressive online incomes without setting up huge operations.

A person could setup a simple site that offers products and/or services in a niche market and make a comfortable living working only part-time. Maybe investing is your thing, well there is plenty of that to be done online as well. Many people hire their services out as freelance work online and do very well with that. Doing freelance work really has its advantages when you consider it is simply a service and the overhead is virtually zero.

Some people use drop-shipping or affiliate programs to earn their money which means no inventory and nothing to ship. Just market the products or services and collect your checks. There are thousands of ways to earn a nice income online and enjoy it too. The benefit does not always have to be about money, how about peace of mind and happiness.
